To promote equitable access to mental health services, inclusive education, and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable populations in Sierra Leone through partnerships and community-led approaches.

A Sierra Leone where all people thrive with mental well-being, inclusive education, and sustainable livelihoods. Where individuals and communities have support and opportunities to live healthy, productive lives.
Who We Serve

Our Thematic Areas
MiND works across four integrated thematic areas to strengthen community resilience and sustainable development in Sierra Leone.

Health
MiND promotes improved health outcomes with a strong focus on mental health and psychosocial well-being, recognizing mental health as a critical foundation for individual productivity, learning, and community resilience.

Education
MiND promotes safe and inclusive education for children with disabilities and vulnerable groups by improving learning environments, strengthening early literacy, and increasing school enrolment and retention.

Protection
MiND works to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence, and to promote safe, supportive environments that uphold children’s rights, dignity, and well-being in Sierra Leone.

Livelihoods
MiND supports sustainable livelihoods to strengthen household income, reduce vulnerability, and improve overall well-being, particularly for women, youth, and caregivers of vulnerable children.
About Mindset Initiative for Development
Mindset Initiative for Development (MiND) was established in response to the critical and often overlooked connection between mental well-being and sustainable development in Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone has experienced prolonged challenges, including civil conflict, public health crises, poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity. These realities have significantly affected the mental and psychosocial well-being of individuals and communities.
Most development interventions focus on economic support, education, or humanitarian relief without adequately addressing the mindset, trauma, stress, and psychosocial barriers that limit people’s ability to fully benefit from these services.
MiND recognizes that healthy minds are foundational to effective development and integrates mental health and psychosocial support with livelihood empowerment, mindset development, and school-based interventions to support resilient communities.
